Monday 16th June

We are looking forward to welcoming you to The Dragon Café on Monday 16th June.

The Dragon Café will be in person at Magdalen Hall

11am: Doors Open

Come on and join us for light refreshments, hot and cold drinks and healthy snacks available.

11:15am – 12:45pm: Poetry with Emma McGordon

We are extremely happy to welcome back Emma to the Dragon Café for another of her poetry sessions. Emma’s sessions are a fun, engaging and accessible way of exploring writing your own poetry. Emma’s use of free writing and poetic form makes this an ideal workshop for everyone, from beginners with no experience of writing poetry to seasoned writers. Emma is a multi-award-winning writer and performer. Much of her writing and spoken word is semi-autobiographical. Emma takes pride in being close to vulnerability and truth in her work.

1pm – 2:20pm:  Southwark Playhouse at The Dragon Café.

We are very pleased to welcome The Southwark Playhouse to the Dragon café for another in our series of sessions they will be delivering at The Dragon Café in 2025. If you are interested in any area of theatre from writing, improvisation, acting, voice work, theatre devising, and performance then these sessions are definitely for you.

2:20pm: Food served:
This week we will be continuing with the MFC menu. Expect lots of fresh and healthy options, including an assortment of salads, fruit, fresh breads, olives, finger foods, and much more.

2:45pm – 4:30pm: Song Writing with Ije Amaechi

Ije will be delivering a songwriting workshop that will focus on lyrics and melodies, because most of our favourite songs have the best of both. Ever had a line from a song stuck in your head and wondered how to write it? Ije will show you how to write your own (and it’s easier than you think). No experience in music is necessary, just an openness to trying something new. You can bring an instrument if you’d like and your voice!

Get to know Ije:

Ije Amaechi is a singer-songwriter and guitarist who fronts a Neo-soul band, releasing music and gigging in and around London. Ije is passionate about mental health and often incorporates this into her own songwriting and workshops, delivering singing and songwriting workshops to a wide range of people, from young musicians to adults who have never written a song before. Ije believes that everyone deserves to find their voice through music and develop their own relationship to it.

4:45pm – 5:45pm: Singing Group

In this session, participants are invited to come together in celebration of the positive impact of singing and the voice. This session, facilitated by our singing lead Vivien Ellis, will be an energy filled journey through a mix of singing and vocal styles. From sea shanties to old English chants, choral favourites written by the singing group and some improvised rounds and soundscapes. There is something in this session for everyone.

All are welcome and we look forward to welcoming you to Magdalen Hall. See you on Monday!
