12:30pm - 2:00pm: Creative Writing with Wordsmiths
We are extremely happy to welcome back Naomi from Wordsmiths to the Dragon Café for the first Wordsmiths session of 2025. In this fun workshop, attendees are guided through structured writing activities and games to enable them to create and share a mixture of fictional and true stories based on their own experiences.
The group setting allows each person to firstly build confidence by sharing work that they have created from nothing, and secondly to build empathy towards other people in their community by hearing their stories in their words. The goal is to enable a creative way to communicate and to understand thoughts and ideas whilst having fun.
2pm: Food served:
This week we will be continuing with the MFC menu. Expect lots of fresh and healthy options, including an assortment of salads, fruit, fresh breads, olives, finger foods, and much more.
2:30pm – 4:30pm: The face we choose – A mask making workshop and feedback session with Jonny Dixon and Ope Atanda.
Artist Jonny Dixon invites you to explore your inner world through mask-making. In this workshop, you are invited to explore the question: "What face do I show to the world, and what face do I truly want to reveal?" Drawing inspiration from archetypes from the natural world such as the tiger, a weathered tree, or a mountain range you'll create a mask that embodies the strength, hope, courage, and joy you wish to embody. Unleash your creativity and discover the face you choose to show the world!
We will also be joined during this session by Ope Atanda from London Southbank University for a special feedback session. MFC and LSBU are collaborating to improve The Dragon Cafe based on member experiences. This feedback session which happens alongside the mask making workshop and will help us to enhance MFC's delivery of mental health accessible arts activities.
4:45pm – 5:45pm: Singing Group
Join us for a vibrant vocal session led by Vivien Ellis, celebrating the joy of singing. We'll explore various musical styles including sea shanties, old English chants, choral pieces created by our group, and some improvised rounds and soundscapes. There's something for everyone!
