Join us as we spend the day getting creative with our special workshops!
Timetable
12:00pm: Doors Open - Come and relax, catch-up and chat. Hot and cold drinks will be available.
12:30pm - 2:00pm: Wordsmiths Creative Writing
In this fun workshop, attendees are guided through structured writing activities and games to enable them to create and share a mixture of fictional and true stories based on their own experiences.
The group setting allows each person to firstly build confidence by sharing work that they have created from nothing, and secondly to build empathy towards other people in their community by hearing their stories in their words. The goal is to enable a creative way to communicate and to understand thoughts and ideas whilst having fun.
2pm: Warm Food: This week at The Dragon Café we have free hot food available! This will be served at 2pm after the creative writing workshop.
2:30pm - 5:00pm: Running away to build our own home (What we do to get through).
An exploration of drawing and mental health.
In this special extended workshop facilitated by the multi-talented artist and illustrator Jonny Dixon, participants will explore the idea of ‘home’ and what that means in terms of perception of ourselves and a sense of connectedness, whatever our exterior circumstances happen to be, as well as the more conventional idea of a ‘home’ being a physical place. Together the participants will work together to create a collaborative expression of what ‘home’ can be.

Who is Jonny Dixon?
Living on a houseboat he built from scratch on the Medway Estuary on the North Kent coast, Jonny’s studio & home goes up and down with the tides.
His creative work has followed three different strands: theatre acting, mask & puppet making and fine art & illustration. Having toured the world as a theatre actor and maker of masks & puppets for nearly 30 years, his artwork has naturally developed a focus on character, atmosphere, drama and storytelling.
He enjoys building layers of detail and texture into his work, often using antique maps or vintage book covers as a starting canvas. The past, both recent and ancient often calls to him as subject matter and myth & folklore are a strong inspiration too. A sketchbook always journeys with him on his travels as a way of marking place & time and of dipping into imaginary worlds and drawing has been a meaningful part of his life ever since he could scribble.
His work has won awards and been shown in a number of solo exhibitions in the UK and he is sought after for unique commissions that breath life into bespoke visual narratives and fresh stories with personal meaning to the viewer.

5:30pm - 6:30pm: The Dragon Café Singing Group
The Dragon Café Singing group will be meeting for a live session on Monday, where we will be raising our voices together in song as we come together. Come along and join in, everyone is welcome.
