Monday 26th May

We are looking forward to welcoming you to The Dragon Café on Monday 26th May.

The Dragon Café will be in person at St. Johns Waterloo

12pm: Doors Open

Come on and join us for light refreshments, hot and cold drinks and healthy snacks available.

12:30pm – 2pm:  Poetry with Emma McGordon

We are extremely happy to welcome back Emma to the Dragon Café for another of her poetry sessions. Emma’s sessions are a fun, engaging and accessible way of exploring writing your own poetry. Emma’s use of free writing and poetic form makes this an ideal workshop for everyone, from beginners with no experience of writing poetry to seasoned writers. Emma is a multi-award-winning writer and performer. Much of her writing and spoken word is semi-autobiographical. Emma takes pride in being close to vulnerability and truth in her work.

2pm: Refreshments served:
This week we will be continuing with the MFC menu. Expect lots of fresh and healthy options, including an assortment of salads, fruit, fresh breads, olives, finger foods, and much more.

2:30pm – 4:30pm: THE ART OF COB with Constança Saturnino

Join us for a unique, hands-on experience with talented artist and friend of Mental Fight Club, Constança Saturnino, as we delve into the ancient art of cob making!

Together, we'll mix the simple, natural ingredients of Clay, water, sand, and straw to create this wonderfully malleable and earthy material. Then, drawing inspiration from cob's rich history of creating organic, hand-shaped forms, we'll use it to sculpt pieces that speak directly to our individual and collective relationship with the natural world.

This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with an ancient craft, express your creativity, and explore nature's artistry through a truly sustainable medium.

Traditionally “Cob” would be made by mixing the materials communally with bare feet, this is a great and visceral way to experience this material. However, if you still want to join in this stage of the process but don’t want dirty feet, then please bring a pair of boots you don’t mind getting dirty to the session.

4:45pm – 6:15pm: An Ecstatic and Open Floor Dance Session led by Flomotion Dance

Let your body lead the way in this liberating Flomotion dance session.

We are invited to bring our awareness very deliberately to our bodies, our breath and to follow our own movement. The facilitation encourages us to move spontaneously and follow movement impulses; that there are no right or wrong movements, that we don’t need to know what we are doing. It is a ticket to bypass judgement, self-criticism and inertia.

Flomotion is a heady mix of relaxation, joy and physical freedom. Practitioner Julia Franks offers us an invitation to immerse ourselves in the free dance ‘space’ with a unique, funky and liberating play list.

All are welcome and we look forward to welcoming you to St. John’s Waterloo. See you on Monday!
